Just a Reminder of the need for unity in the community

We recently received notice from a reader that white supremacist literature was delivered to some Southside homes early this month. Southside Pride opposes racism and other efforts to keep us apart as a community, and as such we believe people should be aware of all options available to address the issue of this type of harassment.
We believe the best protection from such violent ignorance is open communication with our neighbors. The more we can communicate with those living around us, respecting our differences while acknowledging our similarities, the better we are at preventing the spread of ignorance and hatred that can only serve to hurt us all.
Please do not be overly alarmed at this incident. Do be aware, however, that racism and bigotry exist in this country, and ignoring them will not make them disappear. If we remain vigilant in treating each other with respect, however, and openly communicate while respecting everyone’s human dignity, we can be certain that we are taking a step in the right direction.
If you are subjected to hate activity or any forms of intimidation and wish to report it to law enforcement officials, the telephone number to Lieutenant Dan Roen of the Minneapolis Police Department Organized Crime Division is 612-673-2975. The number to the office of Attorney General Mike Hatch is 651-296-6196.
