Lake Hiawatha Festival set for this August

The Eighth Annual Lake Hiawatha Neighborhood Festival will be held on Wednesday evening, August 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lake Hiawatha which is located at 2701 E. 44th St. in Minneapolis. The festival will have inflatable games available for young children to enjoy as well as other fun games. Kids—do you want a chance to become an honorary Cody Banks agent? If so check out the Agent Cody Banks Challenge—an inflatable obstacle course for kids aged 6-16 which is designed to reach kids with the details of the VHS/DVD launch of the box office smash hit 'Agent Cody Banks' and a chance to win great prizes.

Fun characters will have face painting and hair painting as well as young children's games and a clown with balloon animals. Make a bird feeder or bird house to take home for free with Elpis Enterprises. Pony Pals will have three ponies for pony rides for children age 10 and younger. We are pleased to announce that Wilderness Inquiry is back with canoe rides on Lake Hiawatha. For the adventurous we have a portable climbing wall by Vertical Endeavors. Learn what can be accomplished with solar energy and check out the solar power trailer from Innovative Power Systems which will be powering the inflatable games. Food for sale includes hot dogs, taco salad in a bag, chips, cookies, orange drink and peanuts. All tickets are 25 cents each. There are also informational tables on various organizations in the neighborhood as well as some of the local businesses.

This year the festival will host the second "Hiawatha Hustle" 5K run and a Kid's Fun Run. Registration for both starts at 5:00 p.m. The Kid's Fun Run will start at 6:00 p.m. and the Hiawatha Hustle 5K race will commence at 6:15 p.m. on August 6. For more details on the 5K or Kid's Fun Run call the Standish-Ericsson Neighborhood Association at 612-721-1601 and ask for Chris.
