Powderhorn Park area to host new elementary and middle school

Risen Christ Catholic School will be moving into the Powderhorn neighborhood this summer. The K-8 school will move its 365 students into a new building at 1120 East 37th Street, which is attached to the Holy Name building. The school is leaving its old building at 38th Street and Pleasant Avenue which will house the Hispanic Ministries of the Archdiocese.

"We hope we enhance the new neighborhood," said Principal Helen Dahlman. They will build a playground at the new site, she added, which will add a positive presence in the neighborhood. The school consists of 82% students of color, which include African-American, Hispanic, and Asian. Although the school represents a population traditionally underserved, Dahlman views the diversity of the students as its strength because "it's who we are in the world."
