Public meeting about Sears building

The Minneapolis City Council selected Ryan Companies as the developer for the former Sears retail and catalog site at Lake Street and Chicago Avenue earlier this year. Shortly after, the Board of Allina Hospitals and Clinics selected the Sears site as their new Corporate Headquarters. With the redevelopment of the Sears Site (now known as the Midtown Exchange) moving forward, a public forum is scheduled for members of the community to get an update on the development of the Sears site, ask questions about the project and give their input. On Tuesday, April 13, City Council Members Robert Lilligren, Gary Schiff and Dean Zimmerman will host an update on the Midtown Exchange Project at the Powderhorn Community Center, 3400 15th Avenue South, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Those in attendance will have the chance to learn about the current tenant plan, progress on the Global Marketplace, details of the current site plan and upcoming city approvals for the project. Ryan Companies’ project plans for the massive building currently include a Global Marketplace, headquarters for Allina, office space, rental and for-sale housing, a hotel, a transit hub, greenway connections and parking facilities.
