Letters to the Editor
The true meaning of Southside Pride

I’m sending this letter because the neighborhood has let the true meaning of “southside pride” shine brightly during the challenges of the bus strike.
Thank you to all of my neighbors in Powderhorn Park. You gave your time, effort and support to help me overcome the bus strike. You saved me from losing my job and inspired my spirit with a showing of kindness, good sense and commitment to our community.

With great appreciation,
Georgeanne Krause

Southside Pride inspires new generation of bird watchers

We started reading the Powderhorn Bird Watch Column this year and we enjoy reading it very much. We began birdwatching in late October.
We live near Powderhorn Park (3104 10th Ave. S.) and this April at our house we saw a Turkey Vulture, a Harrier, Cooper's Hawks, Mourning Doves, Flickers, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, House Wrens, Golden- and Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Hermit Thrushes, a Pine Siskin, White-throated Sparrows, a Harris's Sparrow, Chipping Sparrows, a Savannah Sparrow, and Grackles. When we went to the Arboretum on April 25 we saw two Turkey Vultures, a Red-shouldered or Broad-winged Hawk, a Great Egret, two Hooded Mergansers, Brown-headed Cowbirds, a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, a Great Blue Heron, swallows, and two Wood Ducks.

Sincerely,
Noah and Gabriel Bertilson,
