Lake Street reconstruction update

The process of repaving Lake Street has already begun but there have been some slight changes in the current reconstruction schedule. A contractor hired by Hennepin County will begin this year by reconstructing the segment between 5th Avenue and 13th Avenue followed by reconstruction of the segment between 13th Avenue and 21st Avenue the following year.

Work will proceed as follows:
13th Ave. to Chicago Ave. - South Side
Chicago Ave. to 5th Ave. - South Side
13th Ave. to Chicago Ave. - North Side
Chicago Ave. to 5th Ave. - North Side

The exact construction schedule will be subject to weather conditions, so business owners and residents will be informed before construction changes occur.

With Lake Street under construction for the next two years, people are finding it harder to drive through and to stop for shopping. Nobody knows this better than business owners in the corridor, whose vocal input to the construction planning has touched off a new marketing campaign aimed at retaining and eventually growing their customer base. Currently local business owners are busy organizing around a new “Midtown” brand.
