Burglaries on the
rise
Since June 21 there has been an increase in burglaries
in the 3rd Precinct.
Between June 21 and June 27 there were 12 garage/storage units burglaries,
27 home burglaries and 6 business burglaries. Of the 39 home and
garage/storage burglaries 72% were unforced entries.
In all of the business burglaries force was used
to enter the premises.
There doesn’t appear to be any particular pattern or organization
to these crimes. In the vast majority of the cases no force was
necessary because doors were left unlocked,
windows left open, etc.
What you can do
Practice good home security and crime prevention techniques:
- Be aware of strangers loitering in the area when you leave your
house. Make sure you know your neighbors!
- Make your home look occupied.
- Keep your doors and windows locked at all times.
- Be on the lookout. The police want you to call 911 for any suspicious
activity, such as strangers walking in yards or between houses,
the sound of glass breaking, loud banging and unfamiliar vehicles
lingering in your alley.
- Leave outdoor lights on overnight or install photosensitive lighting
that operates from dusk to dawn, mounted high enough to be out of
reach of crooks.
The Minneapolis Police
Department can do a free home security survey of your home. For
