South Minneapolis residents are taking it to the streets and doing their part to fight the rising rate of overweight and obesity in the United States. On July 13, more than 40 residents and local leaders held a kick-off event for a new urban walking route and walking club for residents called Step To It Southside. The two-mile group walk began at the Sabathani Community Center, 310 E. 38th St., Minneapolis. The center will continue to be the starting point for the walk at 8 a.m. each Wednesday. It is open to walkers of all ages. For more information on Step To It Southside, contact Sara Khalfa at 612-821-2384.
