Area shops suffer rash
of robberies
By Cynthia Moothart
Four area markets have been robbed at gunpoint
during the past month, and police are still searching for the suspects.
The markets include: Market Express, 3159 Chicago
Ave. S., which was robbed on Dec. 11; Southside Deli, 3300 Chicago
Ave. S., which was robbed on Dec. 20; Family Foods, 3459 Minnehaha
Ave., which was robbed on Christmas Day (a store clerk was shot
in the stomach during this robbery); and Sam’s Meat Market,
1543 35th St. E., which was robbed on Dec. 22.
Police say the suspects’ descriptions,
firearms and patterns of behavior in these robberies are very similar,
which leads them to believe that the same people are involved in
each case. Police say the suspects should be considered armed and
dangerous.
Police released the following descriptions of
three suspects believed to be working together in the robberies:
A black male, age 17-22, with a light complexion and thin build,
standing around five foot eight or five foot nine, clean shaven,
wearing black clothing and a black bandana; a black male age 20
to 25, with a dark complexion and thin build, and about 5-foot-10
to 6 feet tall; a black male, age 18 to 22, with a dark complexion
and medium build. Vehicle descriptions include a red or maroon two-door
vehicle, possibly a Honda; and a maroon Chevrolet Caprice. Call
the robbery unit 612-692-8477 with tips.
