Seward Arts Festival happens on Nov. 11

The Seward Neighborhood Group (SNG) presents the 7th annual Seward Arts Festival (SAF) on Saturday, November 11th. Enter the studios, homes, and galleries of nearly 100 artists and performers throughout Seward to view and buy distinctive art and enjoy music, poetry, and performance.
What makes the Seward Arts Festival different from the others? “Seward is the most amazing neighborhood,” said Bryan Maher, co-owner of the Clicquot Club Café on East 25th Street. “I always say you can find weird people anywhere, but the people in Seward believe in their own weirdness, and want you to believe in them too.”

Visitors will find excellent work in photography, stained glass, metal furniture, jewelry, textiles, ceramics, lithography, oil painting, comic art, film, and miniature architecture. Local authors will also read aloud from a state-of-the art sound stage at Orfield Laboratories. Come listen to the Lady Poetess from Hell! Performances by Seward musicians and dancers also reveal talents like hula, comedy, brazilian rap, country blues, rock, and reggae. All events are free.
A map, schedule, and samples of artists’ work can be found at www.sewardarts.org.

Printed maps are also available at Seward area businesses, artist’s locations, and the Matthews Center at 2318 29th Avenue South.

Since 1999, the Annual Seward Arts Festival has helped to build identification of Seward as an arts neighborhood. Several prominent artists call Seward home, including Wing Young Huie, and Spider John Koerner. Businesses like Joan of Art and The Playwrights’ Center attract national attention. A renovated warehouse across from the Hexagon Bar on 27th Avenue (The Ivy Building) houses studios to working artists, many of whom are graduates of MCAD. According to a recent article in The Star Tribune, the East 25th Street corridor is a revitalized entertainment district, with live music at the Eagles Club and at Memory Lanes.
