Robberies near LRT stations
There have been several aggravated robberies
this month in the areas surrounding the VA Medical Center LRT Station
(East 54th Street and Minnehaha Avenue) and the 38th Street LRT
Station (East 38th Street and Hiawatha Avenue).
Suspects used a gun to threaten the victim or
pushed the victim to the ground. Most of these incidents occurred
between 7 p.m. and midnight. Suspect information is limited. The
suspects were described as one to four black males, 16 to 20 years
of age, wearing dark clothing.
As a result, the MPD is taking the following
steps:
•Increased police patrols at and near LRT stations in the
precinct.
•Metro Transit Police have also increased presence at LRT
platforms.
•Officers have been looking into possible suspects whom they
believe may be involved.
•The Robbery Unit has investigators assigned
to these cases.
If you use Metro Transit, be alert to any suspicious activity near
bus and rail locations in your neighborhood.
What else you can do:
•Practice good home security and crime prevention techniques:
•Be extra cautious about your surroundings. Be aware of strangers
loitering in your area around the bus stop or LRT platform.
•Carry only what you need. Do not carry large amounts of cash
or unnecessary personal items.
•Call 911 if you see anything suspicious. If you do not
speak English, call 911 and tell them which language you speak so
that they can get a translator to help.
