MN State Senate race heating up

BY ED FELIEN
There are less than two weeks before the DFL Senate District 62 endorsing convention and delegates are already getting an earful.

Current 11th Ward City Councilmember Scott Benson and former 6th Ward City Councilmember Earl Netwal are busy phoning delegates and asking for support. Scott’s doing more listening than talking, and Earl’s doing more talking, according to scattered reports. Alex Eaton is doorknocking delegates and seems to have the best organized campaign.

There are some newcomers in the race: Wally Storbakken and Tom Westcott. AFSCME member Tina Sanz and children’s policy advocate Patricia Torres Ray are candidates, as is Matt Gladue.

There will be a candidates’ forum this Wed., March 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the CWA Hall, 3521 E. Lake St. It will probably be your last chance to see all the candidates in action before the endorsing convention Sat., April 1 at Roosevelt High School. Ann Friedich will convene the convention at 10 a.m.
The 62nd District runs south of Pautz Avenue and Highway 94 through all of the Seward, Longfellow, Cooper, Howe and Minnehaha neighborhoods.
