Earth Day cleanup on April 22

Almost 1,000 people of all ages are expected to gather around the popular lakes, creeks and rivers of Minneapolis to gather garbage and celebrate Earth Day from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Sat. April 22.

Last year, 7,320 pounds of trash was collected from areas surrounding these waters during the Annual Earth Day Watershed Clean Up hosted by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, City of Minneapolis Solid Waste and Recycling, and neighborhood organizations

Gloves and trash bags are provided, and day-of registration makes participating easy. For more information, the public may contact the Earth Day 24-hour hotline at 612-313-7722, or visit www.minneapolisparks.org.

The event will be held, rain or shine, at the following registration sites:
•Lake Nokomis and Hiawatha—Nokomis Community Center, 2401 E. Minnehaha Parkway.;
•Diamond Lake—Pearl Park at 414 E. Diamond Lake Road.
Following cleanup efforts, celebrations will be held at the Nokomis Community Center and at Pearl Park. Helping to beautify our Mother Earth is truly a reason to celebrate.
