Corridor Development meetings—add your voice to the mix

How can the neighborhood get out ahead to help shape future development that will be fueled by the LRT? Nokomis area neighborhood groups invite you to participate in the Corridor Housing Initiative, a partnership between the Standish Ericsson neighborhood and the City of Minneapolis, with a technical team of development consultants, design experts and facilitators to connect development opportunities with neighborhood goals. An increased demand for housing along transit corridors will influence development patterns along Hiawatha Avenue. Be a part of a proactive conversation about how to leverage community goals and stronger public spaces through future development opportunities.

On Tues., May 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sibley Neighborhood Center, located at 1900 East 40th Street. neighbors are invited to the meeting Defining Development Objectives, a panel conversation with developers, Minneapolis Community Planning and Economic Development staff, and neighborhood leaders.

An East Nokomis meeting will be held on Thu., May 11 from 7 to 9 p.m., at Keewaydin Community Center, 3030 East 53rd Street. This will be the fourth public workshop and open house at the Center. Attendees can expect the Hay/Dobbs consulting team and Minneapolis planner Mike Larson to present their draft master plan for the 50th Street and Veteran’s Administration Medical Center LRT station areas at the meeting. Many residents have contributed their ideas and knowledge of the area to the planning process during the three previous meetings.

The Nokomis East Neighborhood Association is looking forward to seeing how those ideas can be developed into a plan. Everyone with an interest in future residential and commercial development along the Hiawatha corridor is encouraged to participate. These workshops are open to the public, regardless of residence.
