Mark your calendars for neighborhood festivals

On Sept. 16, local businesses will come together “to give you the business”—and not any funny business. “The 48th and Chicago–Shop Close to Home Festival” will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m, come watch young performers from Field School and Ramsey International Fine Arts School show off their talents. There will be dance performances, jazz, classical and musical dance. Come to sample foods from a variety of area eateries around 48th and Chicago. For more information, please contact Dorothy Pitheon at Dick’s Metro Carpet: 809 E. 48th St., 612-827-5646.

Every fall the Field Regina Northrop Neighborhood Group brings the whole neighborhood together for the Annual Neighborhood Celebration. This year the event will be held on Sept. 30 at McRae Park, at 47th Street and Chicago Avenue , to enjoy free food, entertainment and activities, and there will be a raffle of prizes—all donated by local merchants. Gather at the park from noon to 3 p.m.
