Spring is here - get out and about

On March 30, join Council Member Gary Schiff for "Breakfast with Gary" with 5th District Congressman Keith Ellison. Before being elected to Congress in 2006, Ellison represented House District 58B in the Minnesota State Legislature. Keith has a long history of community service and has been active on issues such as privacy, welfare reform, indigent defense, environmental justice and others. This is a good time to ask both of your elected officials questions that have been on your mind.

Breakfast with Gary is a monthly event held 7:30 to 9 a.m. the final Friday of the month at the Cafe of the Americas (3019 Minnehaha Avenue South). $5 buys breakfast.

What better way to affirm Earth Day than to help out at this year's Earth Day River Cleanup—scheduled for Saturday, April 21. Volunteers are badly needed. Call Tom Kilton at 612-339-3064, or e-mail tom@tomkilton.com to sign up. Gloves, coffee and rolls are provided. Come for the Earth, stay for the coffee and rolls. Or come for the Earth, and stay for the Earth.

The community is invited to enjoy a Spiritual Jazz Brunch on Saturday, April 14, at 10 a.m., hosted by Trinity of Minnehaha Falls (5212 41st Ave. S). The event, featuring inspirational music performed by a jazz ensemble, will benefit the work of Jordan New Life Community Church in the Jordan Neighborhood of North Minneapolis. Come for a delicious brunch and hear about the innovative work of JNLCC to positively impact their neighborhood. A free-will offering is requested; $15 is suggested for the brunch. To make reservations or receive more information, call 612.724.3691 or e-mail trinhaha@trinity-falls.org.
