Cristo Rey Jesuit School recruits new students for next school year— one tool is internships
There’s an old joke popular
with Catholics that goes something like this: Three very religious
priests, a Trappist, a Dominican and a Jesuit, died at the
same time and were brought before St. Peter. He said, “You’ve
all been wonderful priests.
Do you have a special request of
Heaven?” All three of them wanted to see the Holy Family,
so St. Peter ushered them into a lovely chapel and raised a curtain,
and there was the Holy Family. The Trappist laid down face forward
and went into a trance. The Dominican began praying the Rosary,
and the Jesuit went up to the Blessed Mother and asked, “So,
where are you going to send the kid to school?”
Jesuits care about education, and the new Cristo Rey school, at
1010 E. Lake St., promises to be a welcome addition to South Minneapolis.
Their concept is unique for a private school in that students will
be linked to corporations to work one day a week to contribute to
paying for their tuition through a corporate internship program.
Cristo Rey is currently recruiting 125 current 8th graders for enrollment
in the 2007-2008 school year. There are information meetings Wednesdays,
7 to 9 p.m. and every other Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
at 1010 East Lake St. (next to the Family Dollar Store). For more
information, contact Fr. Bill Johnson at 612-276-0140.
