Peace Vigil & Potluck

of the war against Iraq, a peace vigil will be held on the Lake St./Marshall Ave. Bridge. The Hennepin County Volunteer & Community Partnership Program is looking for parent aide volunteers. As a volunteer you can offer your experience as a parent to a single mother or father. Provide encouragement and give hope to single parents who may be coping with health problems, disabilities or other issues. Volunteers are asked to meet with the parent every week for one year. Stage Elements
Summer Theatre Institute 2008. This summer an extraordinary educational opportunity for students is returning for its third year! The University of Minnesota Theatre Arts and Dance Department will bring together Twin Cities artists to offer the STAGE ELEMENTS Summer Theatre Institute to current high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors interested in theater and performance. The Institute takes place June 16-26, for 11 full days of programming. Students stay in double occupancy rooms in Middlebrook Hall, which is conveniently located across the street from the Institute in Rarig Center. Tuition is $450 including dormitory and meals. A limited number of scholarships are available. Students are to complete the application and send it with all accompanying materials to the Department of Theatre Arts & Dance no later than May 1. Applicants are recommended to apply for the priority deadline April 18, to secure a place in this unique and challenging summer theater institute. Enrollment is limited to 20 students, and all applicants will be notified of their acceptance within two weeks of the deadline. Free tax prep & benefits screening by non-profit organization. Singles with a gross income of $30,000 or less or if your family earns less than $40,000 a year, you may qualify to receive free tax filing and you may get extra money back through the Earned Income Tax Credit and Working Family Tax Credit. You also qualify for benefits screening for state programs such as Food Support, Medical Assistance, Minnesota Care, Childcare and Energy Assistance. The American Indian Economic Development Fund (AIEDF) will hold its Indian Entrepreneur Class at 831 Como Ave. St. Paul, starting April 9. The 33 hour class runs for 10 weeks with classes held every Wednesday night from 6 to 9 pm. The AIEDF is a nonprofit agency positioned to help American Indian entrepreneurs by providing individualized, culturally relevant business education, counseling and mentoring throughout the loan process. The AIEFDF provides culturally sensitive financial technical assistance. They arrange and facilitate meetings between the entrepreneur and the main lender. The Fund makes loans to American Indian men and women who are creating or expanding retail, services and manufacturing business—all of which hire American Indians as their employees. Hennepin County takes electronics free of charge, year-round, from residents at drop-off facilities in Bloomington and Brooklyn Park. Electronics accepted include TVs, computers (CPUs, monitors, laptops), computer peripherals (keyboards, printers, etc), VCRs, DVD players, stereos and more. Some quantity limits apply.
