In his new book, “Souled Out: Reclaiming Faith and Politics after the Religious Right” (Princeton University Press 2008), Dionne writes about the historical relationship between politics and religion and highlights today’s changing dynamic between these two forces. He will talk about this relationship and the fading political power of the Religious Right. Professor Larry Jacobs will moderate the discussion. This presentation is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. The program is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance.

Deborah Chandler is the author of the classic beginner's weaving book, “Learning to Weave,” and is also the executive director of Mayan Hands, a federation of artisan cooperatives in Guatemala working with weavers, crocheters and basket makers. In her presentation, “Mayan Hands Weaving a Brighter Future -- What Fair Trade Means to Mayan Women,” Deborah will tell stories about the women, groups and weaving surprises she's encountered during her visits to Guatemala. The backdrop for this talk will be the images and people involved with Mayan Hands. The presentation is free and open to the public. Parking is free. Arbor Day on the Midtown Greenway

Volunteers are needed to plant native trees and shrubs for the 8th annual Arbor Day on the Midtown Greenway. This year we will plant the large area east of Hiawatha Avenue where the Midtown Greenway connects to the new Sabo bike and pedestrian bridge. Please ride your bike if you can! Vehicle parking will be available at The Green Institute. Refreshments and shovels will be provided.

Broken Brain Summit— Inspired by true stories of actors who have experienced brain trauma, the show is scripted by Fringe favorite Amy Salloway and Interact artists, and directed by Scotty Reynolds. John Pieper as Dr. Dendrite leads a cast of 23 in a performance filled with metal heads, talking plants, memory loss, anger management plans, and a whole lot of doctors. Opening April 5 at the Old Arizona Theater.

The Hennepin County Volunteer & Community Partnership Program is looking for parent aide volunteers. As a volunteer you can offer your experience as a parent to a single mother or father. Provide encouragement and give hope to single parents who may be coping with health problems, disabilities or other issues. Volunteers are asked to meet with the parent every week for one year. Youth of Color Apprenticeship Program
(YOCAP) is seeking business owners of color and corporations with individuals of color in leadership roles for help in securing jobs for 30 youth for summer apprenticeships from June 16, through August 29. The program will pay each participant a $2,500 stipend. If you are interested in participating in the YOCAP program, e-mail Willie Carlton at tempd01@aol.com and provide primary contact information. Ms. Carlton will arrange to meet with designated staff to assist in designing a job description appropriate to your needs as well as answer any questions.

Free tax prep & benefits screening by non-profit organization. Singles with a gross income of $30,000 or less or families earning less than $40,000 a year, you may qualify to receive free tax filing and you may get extra money back through the Earned Income Tax Credit and Working Family Tax Credit. You also qualify for benefits screening for state pro- grams such as Food
Support, Medical Assistance, Minnesota Care, Childcare and Energy Assistance. People receiving social security or veteran’s disability pensions need to file a tax return to get the Federal Tax Rebate of $300 or more. Call ACORN at 651-642-9639, ext. 115.

Hennepin County takes electronics free of charge, year-round, from residents at drop-off facilities in Bloomington and Brooklyn Park. Electronics accepted include TVs, computers (CPUs, monitors, laptops), computer peripherals (keyboards, printers, etc), VCRs, DVD players, stereos and more. Some quantity limits apply.
