IBM is donating 600 KidSmart Young Explorer computer centers to preschool programs nationwide to help children with disabilities and their classmates learn together and build skills for future academic success. The donation is being made to PACER Center — a national organization for parents and professionals working with children with disabilities, such as autism, vision loss or other learning disabilities and physical impairments — to distribute computer stations designed for preschoolers throughout the country.

There will be two speakers at this program, which will focus on why we need to stop the CAP-X 2020 High-Voltage Transmission Line that is proposed to run across Minnesota, bringing more dirty, coal-fired power into the state. Paula Maccabee is an environmentalist and attorney for the Citizens Energy Task Force (CETF), the group that is leading opposition to the CAP-X 2020 Power Line and will present CETF’s position. Adam Ritscher is a grassroots activist with Save Our Unique Lands (SOUL). He has served as past District 6 Representative on the Douglas County Board of Supervisors in Superior, WI., and is a member of United Steelworkers Local 9460. He will be speaking on SOUL’s past struggle to stop the power line that is being run through Wisconsin from Canada to Chicago. There will also be a discussion about the need for locally-generated clean, renewable energy as the sensible alternative. It is free and open to the public.

The Hennepin Cou-nty Volunteer & Community Partnership Program is looking for parent aide volunteers. As a volunteer you can offer your experience as a parent to a single mother or father. Provide encouragement and give hope to single parents who may be coping with health problems, disabilities or other issues. Volunteers are asked to meet with the parent every week for one year.
