Erica Bouza as Virginia Woolf in
"The Three Guineas"
December 10, 7 pm.
St. Joan of Arc Church Chapel
4537 3rd Ave. S. Virginia Woolf was born on January 25, 1882, in London and conquered many hardships growing up, including the death of both parents at a young age. She never had proper education, yet Virginia Woolf was able to teach herself due to access to her father's extensive library. She began writing in 1908 and wrote "The Three Guineas," beginning in 1936, as a letter in response to an English barrister's request of a guinea each, for three deserving causes. Bouza is an influential activist and the wife of former Minneapolis police chief, Tony Bouza, who on occasion not only had to bail her out of jail, but also has had to arrest her because of her protests. Complete with an authentic accent, Erica Bouza portrays Virginia Woolf in this one-women presentation. A discussion on the importance of Virginia Woolf today will follow. Muscial selections by renowned satirical singer-songwriter ESKIT will precede "The Three Guineas.”

Celebrate Human Rights Day
December 10, 7 pm.
Coffman Memorial Union Theater
300 Washington Ave. SE.
“A Promise to the Dead: The Exile Journey of Ariel Dorfman” is an exploration of exile, memory, longing and democracy as seen through the experiences of writer Ariel Dorfman. Dorfman became cultural advisor to Chile's socialist president Salvador Allende. When the Allende government fell in the military coup of September 11, 1973, Dorfman was among a handful of Allende's inner circle to survive. Years later, he was told that his life was spared because "someone had to live to tell the story."
The film will be followed by a panel discussion with human rights activists who will tell stories of human rights heroism around the world. In addition, resources will be available to assist interested individuals in discovering more about human rights and ways to take action and get involved.
A reception will be held prior to the film at 6 pm. FFI theadvocatesforhumanrights.org

Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus Holiday Concert
December 12, 13 & 14
Ted Mann Hall
U of M West Bank Campus
2128 4th St. S.
The TCGMC's annual holiday concert, “Peace,” will feature music that will stir the soul and warm the heart this holiday season. TCGMC will perform some of the world's most beautiful melodies, including Gwyneth Walker's “The Tree of Peace,” inspired by the Quaker poem “O Brother Man” by John Greenleaf Whittier, and Vincent Persichetti's dramatic “Song of Peace.” The chorus will also sing of peace in Swedish (Jul, Jul, Strålande Jul) and Hebrew (Ose shalom bimromav), with a stylistic nod to Olde English (Wolcom Yole!). As a special treat, look for your favorite TV character in the chorus' rendition of “St. Nick at Night.” For tickets call the box office at 612-624-2345 or go to www. northrop .umn.edu
