Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

Asbury, Edgewater Emmanuel and Oakland United Methodist churches will celebrate the life and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a special morning worship service. The service will focus on how far we have come and will look toward the future of a society with equal rights, respect and opportunities for all. Music will be provided by groups organized from the three churches. A special offering will be taken for the Black College Fund of the United Methodist Church, supporting the 13 historically African-American schools associated with the UMC. A free breakfast of pancakes, potatoes and grits will be served, but call the Oakland office at 612-823-4483 or e-mail mplsoakland@comcast.
net to let them know you are coming. Another celebration, sponsored by TRUST, will be held at Oakland in the afternoon. A free meal follows.

Broomball at McRae Park
This intergenerational event will include members of Minnehaha and Richfield UMC and takes place from 2 to 5 pm.. A game involving youth from both churches will begin at 2 pm.. Participants of all ages are invited to play at 3 pm., and a men’s group will play at 4 pm. Please note that food and snacks will be served inside the recreation center. Games and other activities will be available from 2 to 5 pm. Cost is $3 to cover rink rental and food. FFI call 612-721-6231. Must RSVP.

Taizé Cross at Minnehaha United Methodist Church
Taize worship includes setting the sanctuary with candles and Christ images from various Christian traditions. This January Minnehaha United Methodist Church introduced a cross styled after an original in the Taizé community in France. The cross was created by Lawrence Harvey and Robert Wagner with assisstance by Gail Johnson. There is a plan to display it on a regular basis.
