WomenSpirit, the ecumenical collaboration of 11 Twin Cities organizations supporting women on their spiritual journey, offers program No. 3 in its series Speak Out: Preventing War, Creating Peace. Sister Joan Chittister, a Benedictine nun from Erie, PA, and co-chair of the UN-sponsored Global Peace Initiative of Women is internationally known as a writer and lecturer who asks the hard questions: What does war do to women? . What does religion have to do with war? Where are women in the peace making process? Since "War falls hardest, longest and cruelest on women," Sister Joan declares, "Women as life givers must now give the world the spirit life it lacks." She states, "Women have a right to demand a voice in the development of peaceful alternatives to war." $10 Admission; $5 for Students with ID. Cash or check only; Donations appreciated. FFI: www. Hope for Parents
January 26, 7 - 9 pm.
Hope Lutheran Church
5728 Cedar Ave. S.
Megan Stone from Stone Foundations of Learning will be teaching parents how to help their children gain confidence in all aspects of school.
This includes organizational skills, improving class work, developing the proper way to advocate for themselves, and realizing the need to take responsibility for their actions. arents can gain helpful information from sources that know what it is like to be in school today. As parents we need to remember that we may not have all the tools to give our children to do well in school. An analogy would be just because you know how to skate and hold a stick does not mean that you can be your child's hockey coach. Megan will also include tips for parents of preschoolers. FFI call 612-827-2655.

The program is free and open to the public. Zach Tagar, who holds an MA degree in International Relations and Environmental Policy from Hebrew University in Jerusalem, will lead this presentation and discussion. Tagar works with Friends of the Earth Middle East, a joint Israeli-Palestinian-Jordanian environmental group, recently selected among "Heroes of the Environment 2008" by the Time Magazine.
