According to court documents, Tim Jackson and Andre Whirlwind Horse, 17, went to the Greenway biking and walking path at 28th and Hiawatha at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, “to find a person, beat them up and take their money.”
Police say a person was walking home when he passed Jackson and Horse. The man walked faster. Jackson and Horse ran after him and when they caught up to him they started to hit him.
The man pulled a knife out of his pocket and stabbed Tim Jackson in the stomach. The man fled. Jackson and Horse ran after him.
The man reached Hiawatha Avenue, called 911 and flagged down a squad car. The police found Jackson nearby, called for an ambulance, but Tim Jackson died shortly after reaching Hennepin County Medical Center.
Jackson was a South High School senior. He had just been accepted to Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kan. He seemed to have been proud of his Indian heritage. He sun danced and participated in canoe races at Cass Lake. He was one of five children.
