Sixth Ward campaign mess continues
BY ROBERT LILLIGREN
I have been proud to represent Minneapolis’ 6th Ward, and was honored to win reelection this year. But some people may not know that my campaign prevailed in the face of unprecedented illegal and unethical activities.
Anonymously and through the use of illegal unregistered political committees, money was spent to print, distribute and mail political literature in the 6th Ward without complying with Minnesota’s campaign finance laws. Also, on the night before the election, thousands of pieces of my campaign literature distributed by my campaign volunteers were stolen.
These acts are crimes. I have reported these crimes to the Minneapolis Police Depart-ment, which has begun a criminal investigation. I hope the people who did these things are identified and successfully prosecuted.
I reported these activities to the police because I care about the integrity of our local elections. Minnesota has a long and proud history of clean elections and full disclosure. I will fight to maintain that tradition in my ward. These tactics of fear and intimidation we saw this year must not be allowed to infect other Minnesota elections. Peace
