Dave Bicking thrown off CRA

Longtime critic of police brutality Dave Bicking was not re-appointed to the Minneapolis Civilian Review Authority (CRA). The CRA is the only civilian political body that reviews police misconduct. Even though it has been criticized as a mouthpiece for the police, the CRA did issue a report critical of the reappointment of Chief Dolan.

Bicking has taken the lead in criticizing Dolan and the behavior of "out of control" officers.
The City Council moved quickly at its April 5 meeting to end that strong and strident voice. The Mayor had three appointments and the City Council had one, and Bicking was not on their lists. City Council Member Cam Gordon moved to amend the recommendations to allow for a discussion of Bicking's appointment, but his motion died for lack of a second.
