Dear Editor, Food review needlessly harsh

I think the “review” (which was more like a full article) about Caribe [in the August Nokomis edition] was incredibly low and unnecessary. I’m a breakfast cook, so I can’t claim responsibility for the terrible things that happened when your critic came into our restaurant.

But wow. Really? I can’t believe that everything that could go wrong, did. I also don’t get why a restaurant in St. Paul would be featured in a newspaper dedicated to South Minneapolis. The owner, who was also insulted personally, and by name, is a pretty nice person. He’s got three kids and he seems to be stressed out a lot. I get that it’s a critics job to critique stuff, but why do it to such a new place? I don’t know, it seems to me like it could be bad for the economy.

I thought the review, or article, or whatever it is, was really pretentious. I’ve never given much thought to critics or their profession, but I’ve decided that I don’t respect it, because it’s only the opinion of one person. A bad review can put a place out of business. Personally, I think the breakfast menu is our bright spot. I want to invite the Queen of Cuisine back to Caribe. Maybe for breakfast on the weekend? That’s when I work, and I’d never put food out for a person the way she described it.

My employer, as far as I know, doesn’t know about the review. We didn’t have the heart to show him. I hope he never sees it. I like your newspaper but I think this was not necessary. Even if everything she said is true, why? Opinions that are printed in any newspaper about a business should be the opinions of many people’s voices, not just one. Thanks for your time.
