Defeating the Marriage Amendment
Sunday, Jan. 22, 10 a.m. to Noon
Friends School of Minnesota
1365 Englewood Ave., St. Paul 55104 (North Entrance by Parking Lot on N. Albert St.)
Or Emet, the Minnesota Congregation for Humanistic Judaism, will host Adele Brown, who will discuss the Jewish values that direct us to engage in the historic effort to make Minnesota the first state to defeat a constitutional amendment to define marriage. Speaking from the vantage point of her many years as a Jewish community organizer, Adele will ask us to consider these difficult questions: How do we stop this move to enshrine discrimination into our constitution? What Jewish values are violated by such an amendment and how do we galvanize our community to work to create a just society? How do we develop leaders willing and able to tell their stories, thus motivating and mobilizing others to do the same? The program is free and open to the public.

Help Children with Change, Loss and Grief
Monday, Jan. 30, 7 to 9 p.m.
Hope Lutheran Church
5728 Cedar Ave. S.
Children experience change and loss through death, divorce, disasters, disability and disappointments. This forum will equip and enable parents to help children and teens with the grieving process. We’ll explore: What is grief? How do developmental stages influence a child’s response to loss? How can parents keep the lines of communication open? How can families create meaningful rituals and memorials?

Park Avenue United Methodist Church

The topic for the February meeting is “Gangs in the Central Neighborhood.” Past topics include: understanding immigrant cultures, test results in schools, or what can be done about nearby prostitution. One upcoming topic is about resources available for seniors. Anyone wishing to recommend a topic or a local expert for the panel discussion, contact Rev.
